victorian-hunting-print-joe-wagley-s-last
Victorian Hunting Print, “Joe Wagley’s Last”

A Victorian hunting scene in fine black ink, with a group of riders gathered at the edge of a field, one gesturing as if telling the tale. The caption reads Une bonne histoire (“a good story”), and you can almost hear it. It’s the work of Finch Mason, a Victorian sporting artist, and it carries the dry humour of the hunting field. It’s perfect for a study, a hallway or a gallery wall, and it suits traditional country house and dark academia interiors.

The Details

Approx. Length 41cm Width 35cm including the frame

Printed sporting scene on paper, dated 1886 in a [dark wood] frame with glass

Condition: paper warmly toned with age, light foxing or spotting, frame sound, glass clear;

Finch Mason, 1886

Title and caption printed beneath the image

How It Came to Us
This beauty was hiding in a box of pictures from an auction house.

Care & Display
Hang it away from direct sunlight and damp to protect the paper.
